Our worship theme for May is “I’m Gonna Learn.” So, what have our children been learning? Well, you should probably ask them and hopefully there are a bunch of things they have been learning. But there is one lesson about which I feel particularly good, a lesson that social work … [Read the rest]

“Rebirth and renewal” is what one of children said when I asked what they thought about Easter during Sunday’s service. I was expecting things like “Easter Bunny,” “Flowers”, or “Candy.” This congregation is apparently doing an exceptionally good job teaching our children about meaning, life, and ritual!

One of my jobs as Director of Family Ministry is to help the congregation develop and instill in our children a Unitarian Universalist identity. This is not an easy task because most of us UU adults are not very good at offering a concise explanation of who and what we … [Read the rest]

Pesach/Passover. Lent. Easter. Women’s History Month. If there is one of these “events” that makes me cringe, it’s Women’s History Month. Sitting in a stroller. Bright red hair, eyes wide open– a two-year old is transfixed by his mother rehearsing a song for worship.
Two children, curled up in a window in the sanctuary, watching blue-birds (or is it blue-jays?)
In my first month here at SKUUC, these two images are … [Read the rest]

Dear SKUUC
Playing hide-and-go seek in the church basement. Exploring the creek bed barefoot! Reading stories to the younger children. Lighting the chalice. Wearing fancy dresses while having a picnic in the church kitchen with my best friend. Pancake breakfasts with my church mentor. Meeting an out gay man for … [Read the rest]

The children and youth of this congregation inspire me. They began the worship service that they offered last month began and ended with beautiful piano pieces by Lily Carrall. The service began with the song “Imagine” and ended it with the song “Metamorphosis.” I believe that these words are apt. … [Read the rest]
