It’s always friendlier to meet face to face, but it’s also useful to be able to communicate digitally. We provide several avenues.
Join our mailing list! You can choose which mailings to receive. To update your subscription (change your email address, change the lists you subscribe to, or unsubscribe) click on Update Profile/Email Address at the bottom of any message you receive from the church. If you have questions or no longer have access to your old email address, call the church office or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our monthly newsletter is called The Flaming Chalice. We send notice of new issues via email. You can always access issues from here or from the News section of this website.
Announcements of church related events may be published in The Flaming Chalice at the discretion of the editor. To publish an announcement:
- Send it to email@example.com by the second Sunday of the month for possible inclusion in the following month’s issue.
- Include the date, time, cost (if any), contact person, and last date to sign up if applicable.
- Double check all information for accuracy.
Follow the Starr King Facebook site to socialize, exchange photos, and publicize events to the general public. We also maintain a private Facebook account that limits communication to members who sign up. To sign up for the private account, request membership through the group page or speak with Betsy Dye.
Online Discussion Board (StarrKingSPARK)
StarrKingSPARK is a private online discussion board for members of the Starr King community. Members are encouraged to:
- Remind each other about upcoming church activities
- Give away useful stuff
- Request to borrow items or receive items as gifts
- Request assistance
- Invite folks to events
- Announce activities or events unrelated to the church
- Announce personal events of importance
- Offer items or services for sale
Announcements are emailed weekly and are printed in the Sunday Bulletin. Announced Events appear on the website. HOW TO MAKE SUNDAY BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS.
The Announcement Policy lists some other ways to get announcements out to the church membership. One pathway not mentioned in that policy is using this website. If your group or committee has some news you’d like to have appear on all the pages of the website for a few weeks, such as completing a major task, send your news to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also have a future event appear on the website by sending the relevant information to the same address. For help in creating a church event, consult Planning an Event.
Church Directory (ChurchDB)
The Church Directory contains addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, stewardship information, photos, and more. Members of the Starr King community are invited to use this information to learn who’s who, or to call, write, or send noncommercial email messages to other members. (Pledge information is available only to the pledging family and the relevant finance folks.)
In addition to allowing you to sign into the Directory, the instructions also tell how to use the site to find information about members, how to view and/or print the complete Directory, how to view your pledge information, and how to update your information on Church DB.
If you receive unwanted messages from the church, feel free to ask the individual who sent the email message to take you off their list. Our policy is that we will never share contact information from the Directory with anyone outside of the church.
