Drumming for Spirit: An Always Beginning Drum Circle
Purpose: To encourage creative expression, relaxation, fellowship, and personal and spiritual growth
Membership and Meetings: If you have a beating heart and breathe, you have rhythm and are welcome to join the Drum Circle. (Children should be emotionally mature enough to participate with adults.) Practice is on the First Friday of each month, 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Drumming for Spirit “makes a joyful noise” using many kinds of drums and other percussion instruments. A session begins by making acquaintance with each other and the instruments, and honoring the spirits that are present. Then one person starts a simple rhythm and others join in. The point is to forget about yourself and relax into the feeling and spirit of the group. Games are played and soundscapes created. No previous musical experience or knowledge is necessary, but a beginner’s mind will let you naturally absorb and express the universal rhtyms and patterns that occur in many cultures. The session ends by honoring and releasing all spirits present.
Instruments are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
