Faith in Action

Members of the Starr King UU congregation strive to live in a way that demonstrates our faith and provides for the needs of others. We are members of important community organizations including:

  • Family Emergency Shelter Coalition (FESCO), of which we are one of 30 founding congregations from multiple faiths.  FESCO serves homeless and low-income families using approaches that instill and restore dignity, self-respect, and self-reliance; so that families, their individual members, and the community are strengthened. FESCO serves families of all configurations—two-parent families, single fathers, single mothers, and all children under 18. FESCO has developed goal-oriented support services that address the issues that lead to homelessness and instill skills that will move the families toward employment and independent housing. • South Hayward Parish – Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church is a member of South Hayward Parish, a coalition of congregations providing a variety of social and educational services in the South Hayward community. No Room for Racism vigils sponsored by South Hayward Parish are held every third Friday from 4 to 5 pm PST at the intersection of Jackson-Mission-Foothill in Hayward.
  • Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth - Our mission is to facilitate and support the work of Unitarian Universalists by affirming and promoting the Seventh Principle of the UUA, “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.” Our members believe that the Earth is in peril from human activities, and for us as people of faith, this is a moral and spiritual crisis of utmost importance.

Several Starr King UU Church committees provide additional opportunities for involvement along with other members of our church and the wider community. Please see the calendar for more information.

  • Anti-Racist Multicultural Alliance is newly forming. Please check the announcements and calendar for meeting times.
  • JUUST Social Change meets on the second Sunday after the service, at 11:45 am PST.
  • Starr King Against Racism Forever (SCARF) meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7 pm PST in the church sanctuary.
