Greetings from our Parish Minister

Rev. Katie Kandarian-Morris |
Welcome to Starr King Church in Hayward. I find this congregation to be a warm and welcoming home for liberal religion, a place where both newcomers and long-timers alike can worship, experience spiritual growth and learning, and strive to make our world a better place. We are an informal community, so come as you are, bring your spouse or partner, your children and your friends and join us for Sunday worship.
A little about myself: I grew up in the Detroit suburbs of Michigan and have been a Unitarian Universalist since I told my parents I wanted to attend church at age five. |
I am fortunate that they found this free faith that provides a saving message to those with an open mind seeking to find a place to consider their religious and spiritual questions. As a young adult, I became deeply involved in my church and served as a lay leader of a large congregation in Denver. I heard my call to ministry through leading the annual stewardship program as I realized how much this faith meant to me. I attended seminary at Iliff School of Theology. With joy, I have served Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church since 1999. I have three children, two sons in college and a daughter in high school.
In this living tradition, we are encouraged to be the arbiter of our own beliefs, and our congregation is a good illustration of that, as we include liberal Christians, neo-pagans, natural theists, atheists, agnostics and others. As a personal moniker, I call myself a “faithful agnostic” because the descriptor recognizes my intellectual skepticism as well as my desire to live a life full of hope with a heaping dose of a love of mystery.
We hope you’ll join us!
In Faith, Hope and Love,
Katie
