Fannie Lou Hamer’s America
April 8, 7-9pm
Join us for an in-person and virtual movie night! We will be showing Fannie Lou Hamer’s America via Zoom and in the sanctuary. The Peace & Justice Action Team will email a Zoom link a few days before movie night. If you’re not already on our mailing list, please email Emily at office@starrking.org for information.
Fannie Lou Hamer was born in 1917 to sharecroppers in Mississippi. She spoke for the rights of the Black vote including their right to earn a fair wage. The film includes archival footage that accompanies the details of Hamer’s work. Hamer faced many obstacles and endured extreme hardships (forced sterilization, an attempt on her life, and state-sanctioned violence) but kept on fighting for justice.
