Family Ministry
Starr King is committed to inspiring our youth and supporting our families.
We are excited to welcome families into the space we’ve designed for creativity, learning, and living our values. Our vision is that children and youth are included in church services, activities, leadership, and service. Babies are always welcome to stay in the sanctuary, but we also have a comfortable couch and speakers in the Fellowship Hall if you want to step out for awhile. During most services, children head over to the Hall for activities led by our Director of Religious Exploration. Other services are multigenerational, with special themes and celebrations.
From infants to teenagers, we offer children:
- a safe and accepting space to be their authentic selves
- participation in caring for our world through environmental and social justice projects
- opportunities to express themselves in many and meaningful ways
- tools for de-stressing and feeling anchored in today’s busy world
- deeper understanding of liberal religious values, faith, and philosophical traditions
- sensitivity to the difficult questions of life and growing up
Family Fun Events
At Starr King, our families are a very supportive group and enjoy spending time together. At least once a month, usually on the Second Saturday, Starr King families are invited to gather for Family Fun. Particulars vary each month, but it’s always a fun time. Past events have included park dates / picnics, hikes, movie nights, and trips to local partners like the Hayward Humane Society.
Chalice Children, Preschool-K
Our youngest children meet most Sundays during our worship service. Families usually begin in the sanctuary, and after the Time for All Ages, children are sung to their groups.
This little one is excited to meet up with their big brother after class.
Explorers, Gr.1-5

Youth Group, Gr.7-12
High-school and middle-school youth meet Wednesday nights on Zoom. Of course, they are also invited to participate on Sundays and at all Starr King events.
