Maybe you’re looking for a spiritual home. Maybe you’re looking for people who share your hopes for the world. Maybe you’re looking for a community where people bring dinner when life gets hard. Or perhaps you’re looking for a place where you can be fully yourself, especially if you haven’t always felt welcome elsewhere.

Whatever brought you here, we’re glad you found us.

Starr King is a warm, loving community where we care for one another and the world we share. We celebrate one another’s joys, hold each other through hard times, cherish our children, and show up for our neighbors and the wider community.

For us, love is something we do.

We care for each other

When something wonderful happens in your life, we celebrate with you. When life gets hard, we want to be there too. Sometimes that means a meal or a ride. Sometimes it means listening. Sometimes it means simply knowing that there are people who care about you and are holding you in love.

Our children are part of the heart of this community. We want them to grow up knowing they are cherished, knowing their questions matter, and knowing there are adults beyond their own families who delight in who they are becoming.

Love reaches beyond our walls

The love we practice with one another calls us into the wider world. You’ll find Starr King people at demonstrations, community gatherings, public meetings, and wherever our presence can help bend our corner of the world toward greater compassion and justice.

We’re a small congregation. But we show up.

Whoever you are, you belong here

LGBTQ+ people have long been part of the life and leadership of Starr King. We called our first openly gay minister in 1980. Whoever you are, whoever you love, whatever your gender, you are welcome here.

Wherever you are, you belong here

Some of us gather in our Hayward sanctuary. Some of us join from homes and other places near and far.

We don’t think of the people on Zoom as watching church. They’re at church. They participate, talk, listen, laugh, vote, learn, and build relationships with the rest of us. Distance changes where someone is. It doesn’t change how much they matter.

Come meet us

A website can only tell you so much. The best way to discover whether Starr King might become your community is to spend some time with us.

You can join us in either of two ways. We’d love to meet you.
