This past month brought the announcement that I will be leaving Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church at the end of the summer. The decision has come with both sadness and joy. I am sad to be leaving such a supportive, welcoming, and caring congregation. We have worked together to create an inclusive community for people of all ages. Our children’s program is growing and we are heading towards creating space and classes that will support this growth. It is certainly an exciting time for Religious Exploration at Starr King Church.
My decision to leave came out of accepting an Intern Minister position at Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church in Overland Park, Kansas. Serving in this position will be a large part of my own journey towards ministerial formation and ordination. And I feel I have been wellequipped by this congregation to handle the tasks before me. I am so grateful for the ways you have supported and encouraged my leadership at Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church.
During my time serving here at Starr King UU Church, I have been impressed with the congregation’s support of our youngest members- our children. In the coming months, I will be sending out emails and asking people on Sunday for your continued support of our programming. We need FUNShop leaders and assistants for the summer. If you have a skill or a hobby you would like to share with the kids at Starr King, please consider leading a FUNShop. If you are interested in working with the kids, but have no idea what kind of activity you would like to do, please contact me for a conversation. In the next couple of months, I look forward to continuing the conversation about how to better support our youth and children. On May 1st, the Religious Exploration Council will be hosting our monthly meeting at 12noon. We will be discussing the RE programming for next year. All are welcome to join us. If you can’t make it to this meeting, our next scheduled meeting is May 22nd at 12noon. We hope to see you there for either or both of these dates!
