Why Are We Partying This Stewardship Season?

WHY ARE WE PARTYING THIS STEWARDSHIP SEASON?

Great question!

Community is a vital and precious aspect of our church life. Whenever we poll the congregation, Community ranks very high as an important blessing for each member.  Community means shared values, coming together for worship, and caring for one another, our children and the earth.  Community means being connected with other UU’s around the world as we strive for compassion, justice, and peace.

And, of course, nothing says Community like a good party!  We are taking Community and fun to a new level with the recent appointment of our Ministry of Fun, Liz Nelson and Joanna Zinsli.  It is through celebration that we come together in generosity and love.

We’ve had so many memorable parties over the years:

  • Rev Maria Cristina’s vibrant installation as she became our settled minister. The dancers were spectacular.
  • Solving the mystery at our intriguing Mystery Dinners.  Who was that murderer?
  • The lively BBQ last summer with games for the children and square dancing for the adults – all topped off with ice cream sundaes.
  • The boisterous celebration of Mardi Gras at the end of February 2020, just before we plunged into lockdown.
  • And so many more. You might be remembering a personal favorite right now. And of course, our countless potlucks and celebrations over the years.

So we have set a party schedule for Stewardship Season. We will enjoy the fun, celebrate our community, and remind ourselves that it is only through our pledges that we can strengthen our commitment to each other into the future. Community does not flourish without responsibility. It also can’t flourish without joy. This is a time for both.

In the spirit of stewardship, we ask everyone to come to at least one of the parties – and come to all three if you’d like – and as you are able, think of yourself as both guest and host, and ask how you can contribute. These are parties we are giving for each other, with love.
